Angela Kristine Miller was born on February 17, 1994 in Beverly, Massachusetts, a twenty-five miles away from a city of the Greater Boston area. Her father, Guy, and mother, Tana, were raised in Pennsylvania and graduated from Valley Forge Christian College in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. The couple relocated to Beverly after Guy attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts to prepare for ordination as a Christian minister. The Millers served at churches in Lynnfield, Massachusetts and Cape Cod before becoming co-pastors at Remix Church, a chapter of the Assemblies of God Protestant group, inSalem, Massachusetts.^[1] Miller also has a two-year-elder brother, Jonathan, an integrant of hardcore rock band Exiting the Fall.^[1] At an early age, doctors diagnosed that the singer suffered from 40-percent hearing loss in her left ear and 20-percent in her right, after discovering that the protective envelope of hereardrums had vanished.^[1]^[2] Consequently, she had two cochlear implants and, a month prior to her American Idol audition, fits for silicon spray ear plugs. Miller's condition has affected her singing, obstructing her hearing of her surroundings, rather than herself. She claimed that she learned to manage it a couple of years prior to her American Idol audition.^[1] In January 2013, her mother revealed to The Salem News that a third surgery to skin graft her eardrum was impending once Miller completed her stint on American Idol.

Kree Anette Harrison was born on May 17, 1990 at St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. Her parents, Clint and Kathy Harrison were married in 1993 on Valentine's Day. The family moved to Woodville in a home that was given to them by their grandmother. At age 3, Harrison asked her pastor if she could sing during church. The request was accepted and after she sang, her pastor commented, "I was expectingJesus Loves Me, but she belted out El Shaddai by Amy Grant. I knew then this child had a special gift". Over the next several years, Harrison sang for churches, rodeos, weddings and competitions. At age 8, she was the opening act for R&B performer Percy Sledge. At age 9, she won "Artist of the Year" from Kirbyville Playhouse, and at age 10, she sang on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and was invited back on three other occasions. She had sang in country playhouses all over the area, as a special guest at a Warren Talent Show, and she was second place winner in the New York Apollo competition held inHouston. On October 11, 2001, Harrison's father died after the plane he was on crashed off the coast of Spain. After sixth grade, her family moved to Nashville to pursue her singing career. She attended seventh grade there, and was home schooled afterwards in order to devote more time to her music. On September 22, 2009, Harrison's mother was killed in a head on traffic collision.
